Digital Companions for Learning

Using the Internet as a medium to overcome urban and rural spatial barriers, based on companionship and learning, we train college students to use information tools and resources to introduce teaching. Through real-time online companionship and learning, we help improve the learning motivation and interest of students in remote areas and promote equal learning opportunities in urban and rural areas.

Project Vision and Mission

  1. To foster university students’ passion for service, care for the learning and development of students in remote areas, apply their acquired expertise and information literacy to empower and grow with students, further establish and maintain friendly relations between the school and the community, and practice university social responsibility and social justice.
  2. To inspire and move college students who are willing to engage in service learning, break away from the inherent teaching and learning framework, and create a community-based flipped learning model through remote teaching and companionship in remote areas, so as to achieve the educational goal of holistic development and enable students to become leaders who are capable of serving as teachers and role models.

Project Positioning and Core Values

  1. Creating a seamless learning environment: The digital learning buddy program assists remote or disadvantaged students in their learning by enriching their cross-domain learning experience through service-based activities outside the classroom, in addition to the formal curriculum, and strengthening their learning outcomes through reflection guidance.
  2. Actively guide university companions to explore field characteristics, understand the characteristics and learning patterns of students in remote areas, and design distance learning teaching materials and methods, so that college students can set learning benchmarks through online distance learning and companionship, enhance the learning motivation and vision of remote or disadvantaged students, and thus promote students' learning outcomes and competitiveness.
  3. The goal of fully aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in terms of education quality and poverty eradication allows the university to explore issues such as the types of rural schools, the characteristics of students in remote areas, and the urban-rural digital divide. Through service practices, the university can contribute to rural schools and students, thereby exerting the social influence of the National Taiwan Normal University.
Our school is a major center for teacher training and has integrated service-learning teaching methods into the teacher training curriculum. This is conducive to the rooting of the service-learning concept, the implementation of service-learning work in secondary schools, and the training of secondary school teachers with relevant knowledge and skills to meet the requirements of the twelve-year national education policy that students must have social practice literacy.
  4. Complete educational training and course counseling are provided to help students improve their course design capabilities. Through customized course design, students’ self-confidence and learning motivation are enhanced, and the process of distance learning is completed.
